I will kick this story off with the cheesiest thing to say that comes to mind: it’s almost that time of the year! As everyone was making Christmas plans and decorating the world in pretty lights two months in advance, which I absolutely adore, I was learning one of life’s greater lessons. With only a month of my internship left, it’s about time to share it.
Health is not only physical
Let’s just cut to the chase. I had a shitty time, and I am remarkably happy that I started working here while I did. They say young people are prone to experiencing this because we don’t know how to deal with our feelings yet, we feel tremendous pressure and a lot of other speculations. I don’t know if this is true, but I do know that during the last couple of months, Roadmap helped me grasp how to take care of myself. How? By showing me how to balance and prioritize, and teaching me to be aware of what’s going on inside my head. Because your mental health affects you immensely, it will also affect you at work, and it will affect you physically. If we want to do our best – surprise: we all do -, let’s start with ourselves.
Bringing self-care outward
Today we had a ‘Christmas lunch’ with our entire team, which means we turn our already huge table into a gigantic one by using a lot of desks. It’s great. It makes you feel part of a team; it makes you feel like other people are taking care of you too. Since we all value this feeling so much, why would we forget about it as soon as our employees leave the office and hit the road? Make sure they can do their best too. Take away their stress, heighten their productivity, and make them feel part of the team even when they’re traveling.
Keeping this message within the December spirit, I can happily say that I am grateful for the working environment I get to enjoy every day. How amazing if you can create something like this for your employees, right? Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from me and the rest of the Roadmap team!
