Last weekend, a team of smart, driven Roadmappers participated in the Trave/Scrum Global Travel Hackathon. Together with my co-workers Patrick, Niels, Micha, Sheruela, and Glenn, I went on a mission to empower business travelers to get back on the road. Find out what happened!
Remote: different concept, same adrenaline
I’ll be honest with you. I wasn’t looking forward to this hackathon as much as I was to last year’s IATA NDC Hackathon in Madrid. Remote idea generation and team-spirit sessions are different and more difficult to facilitate. Let’s face it: virtual and in-person get-togethers are not the same! And I just really love the on-location buzz and atmosphere. But hey, you have to cut your coat according to your cloth. We live in the age of remote now.
And you know what? The experience exceeded my expectations. Right after the kickoff, I started designing and felt the familiar jolt of adrenaline shoot through me. This was a hackathon, and we were competing. I created concepts, conceived ideas, and designed a compact yet user-friendly interface. It was awesome!
Outcomes: amazing platform, reinforced appreciation… plus, we won!
I’ll spare you the technical details and skip to the outcome: we delivered an amazing platform for corporates, travel managers, and business travelers. It took some effort, of course. We started early mornings and closed our laptops well past midnight.
On the last day, I looked at my immensely focused teammates, their noses inches away from their screens. I was struck by admiration. The hackathon team had worked so hard. It wasn’t the same team that participated in the IATA NDC Hackathon, but we worked together with the same spirit and ease. That’s because Roadmap’s Product Team has evolved into a coherent group of efficient, smart, creative team players.
This hackathon highlighted how talented and driven our Roadmappers are, reinforcing my appreciation of them. As a team, we join forces to create greatness every day.
Last but not least, we are extremely proud to have won the Global Award for the Trave/Scrum Global Travel Hackathon. On to the next one. We’re ready for it!
